Annnnnd, we're back!

It's been a long time since we gave this blog an update, but I'm happy to report that we're back in action and planning to blog regularly in the future.

I've been doing some outreach to connect with other adult webmasters, and that's led me to some pretty interesting discoveries that I'd like to share with you all soon.

In the meantime, the 50 Shades of Grey phenomenon is sweeping the nation, and I feel like we have to comment on that.  Without talking too much about the dubious "quality" of the book itself, I'd like to focus on the fact that it has people talking.  They might not be the most informed people, but they're talking nonetheless.  They're talking about bondage and discipline, submission and dominance, and sexual relations that exist beyond the vanilla relationships that are traditionally displayed in popular media.

Is 50 Shades going to make masochism mainstream?  That seems unlikely, especially since the book's ending apparently veers in the opposite direction.  I've seen quite a bit of literary criticism from people who are actually involved in BDSM relationships, and they aren't very pleased with the ultimate portrayal of both the Dom and the sub characters.

However, increasing conversations and the mainstreaming of fringe lifestyles can be beneficial even if the author dropped the ball. Seeing how many women were excited by the stories and drawn in reading about a relationship unlike the ones they've personally experienced, it seems like this is something the adult industry can capitalize on.  It might even make it easier for people with, shall we say "grey" tendencies more able to express their desires to intimate partners.  Sexual freedom and increased intimacy are things we'll always support, even if the writing that led to them leaves something to be desired!
